Lands Ministry to withdraw licences of 50 large-scale mining companies over violations

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has announced plans to revoke the licences of 50 large-scale mining firms for breaching regulatory requirements.

According to a statement from the Ministry’s Communications Directorate, the decision follows a comprehensive assessment of large-scale mining operations conducted by a special review committee set up for that purpose.

Acting on the directive of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the committee has published the first batch of companies affected by the ongoing exercise.
The Ministry disclosed that the infractions include the possession of mining leases without valid operational permits from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Water Resources Commission (WRC).

The revocation process, the Ministry noted, is part of a broader, multi-layered government strategy to curb illegal practices and enforce regulatory compliance within the mining sector.
It added that the continuous review is aimed at ensuring that all mining activities comply strictly with approved procedures, environmental protection standards, and due process, in accordance with national laws and best practices.
