TCDA announces stricter regulation to boost tree crop production

The Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA) has announced plans to strengthen regulation and enforcement in 2026 as part of a wider effort to increase production of key tree crops such as cashew, coconut, oil palm, and rubber.

According to the Authority, the renewed regulatory push is intended to improve the overall performance of the tree crop sector, boost productivity, and support Ghana’s broader agro-industrial development objectives.

In an interview with Citi Business News, the Chief Executive Officer of TCDA, Dr. Andy Okrah, indicated that value addition across the entire tree crop value chain will be a major focus, with the aim of increasing export revenues and improving farmers’ incomes.

He noted that tighter regulatory enforcement will help ensure that activities within the sector operate in line with the legal framework set by the state.

“Ghanaians should expect significant improvements in regulation and compliance across the cashew, coconut, oil palm, rubber, mango, and shea sectors. The industry will thrive based on the legal framework the nation has put in place,” Dr. Okrah said.

Dr. Okrah further revealed that the government intends to distribute more than three million free seedlings to over 10,000 farmers across the country to expand production. He added that the Authority will also promote value addition by increasing processing capacity, including the establishment of new factories and the provision of grants to existing processors to enhance output and efficiency.
