EPA warns public against impostors posing as its officials

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has cautioned the public against the activities of individuals impersonating its officials and unlawfully visiting business premises under false pretences.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 26, the Authority condemned the practice as fraudulent, noting that it damages the EPA’s integrity and public trust.

The warning is particularly targeted at business owners and project developers, who have reportedly become frequent victims of such impersonation.

The EPA emphasised that its officers involved in compliance, enforcement, or monitoring exercises do not visit facilities without presenting valid identification and official authorisation.

“Please note that EPA field officers conducting compliance, enforcement, or monitoring activities will never visit any facility without proper identification,” the statement said.

The Authority explained that personnel on authorised assignments can be easily identified through official EPA staff identification cards, formal letters of introduction clearly indicating their association with the Authority, and the use of branded EPA vehicles.

In addition, officers are mandated to wear EPA-branded reflective vests while carrying out field duties.

The EPA has strongly urged the public not to allow access to their premises, make payments, or share information with anyone who cannot produce all the required credentials.

Businesses and institutions have also been advised to verify the identity of any individual claiming to represent the Authority before engaging with them.

To assist the public in confirming the legitimacy of EPA officials, the Authority encouraged individuals and organisations to contact its offices whenever doubts arise.

The EPA can be contacted through its official telephone lines, by email at client.relations@epa.gov.gh, or via its official website.
