Government Pays GH¢115.9m Premix Fuel Arrears to Stabilise Supply

The Government of Ghana, led by President John Dramani Mahama, has settled outstanding premix fuel under-recoveries amounting to GH¢115,957,330 as part of efforts to stabilise the downstream petroleum supply chain and protect the premix fuel programme under the Resetting Ghana Agenda.
The payment, effected on January 16, 2026, covers arrears owed to Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) for the period between March and September 2025.
The settlement is expected to ease liquidity pressures on the BDCs and ensure the timely and consistent supply of premix fuel to artisanal fisherfolk in coastal and inland fishing communities across the country.

By clearing the debt, government has reaffirmed its commitment to the premix fuel subsidy scheme, a key intervention aimed at reducing operating costs for small-scale fishers, safeguarding livelihoods and boosting productivity within the fisheries value chain.
The move also reflects the broader objectives of President Mahama’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, which focuses on economic stabilisation, institutional efficiency, transparency and the protection of vulnerable sectors, including fisheries and coastal communities.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, working with relevant energy sector agencies, will continue to monitor premix fuel distribution to ensure accountability, equity and uninterrupted supply to beneficiaries.
The initiative forms part of wider government measures to strengthen food security, restore confidence in critical supply chains and reposition the fisheries sector as a key driver of national development.
