Fisheries Commission Hosts Stakeholder Engagement on Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2025

The Fisheries Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, hosted a stakeholder engagement meeting at its Head Office in Accra. The session brought together key industry players, including the Ghana Industrial Tuna Association (GITA), the National Fisheries Association of Ghana (NAFAG), and the Ghana Fisheries Regulatory Authority (GFRA).

The meeting focused on crucial aspects of the newly enacted Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2025 (Act 1146). Key discussions included the implementation of the Act, the proposed extension of the Inshore Exclusive Zone (IEZ), gear restrictions, and various operational activities at sea.
Participants were taken through the existing regulatory framework, with constructive discussions aimed at fostering stronger compliance and promoting sustainable fisheries management practices.

The engagement emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure effective governance and sustainable resource management in Ghana’s fisheries sector.
The Fisheries Commission reiterated its commitment to fostering inclusive decision-making processes for the long-term health of the country’s fisheries resources.
