Appiate Support fund has received over GH¢42M so far- Abu Jinapor

The minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has disclosed that the Appiate support fund has received over GH¢ 42 million in donations so far.

Mr. Jinapor on Tuesday, June 8, 2022, said the money raised so far is from individual and corporate donations.

“As of Monday, June 6, 2022, the committee had received cash donations of GH¢42,527,380.2. This amount includes the four installment payments made by Maxam Ghana Limited”, he said.

The Minister also said a part of the amount has been used to complete temporary structures to accommodate the victims of the explosion.

“GH¢ 1 million has been advanced to the Appiate Reconstruction Implementation Committee to complete temporary structures to accommodate the victims of the incident, ending the reconstruction as well as undertake preparatory works for the construction”, he added.

Mr. Jinapor further indicated that the committee has also received non-monetary items such as “wood, cement, clothing, and food items”.

The Appiate Support Fund was established following an explosion of mining explosives that occurred when a truck carrying the explosives was involved in an accident in the town.

14 people died from the incident while over a hundred suffered various levels of injury.
