Australia to boost agricultural research and food security in Ghana

The Australian High Commission has announced plans to officially launch the office of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) in Ghana in February 2026.

ACIAR is a leading Australian Government agency responsible for delivering agricultural research and capacity-development projects in developing regions.

Speaking at the Australia Day celebration held at the High Commission on January 26, 2026, the Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Berenice Owen-Jones, stated that the new office will focus on improving food systems, boosting productivity, and building resilience among farming communities.

ā€œI’m pleased to announce that next month, we will be launching the office of the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research. ACIAR is investing 76 million Australian dollars in agricultural research to address the impacts of climate change on smallholder farmers and food security,ā€ she stated.
