By GAYO

Green Africa Youth Organization, a youth-led gender-balanced Organization, and the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly have called on stakeholders and corporate institutions to partner in its door-to-door sensitization exercise dubbed ‘Zero-waste for all communities’. This is to sensitize households on effective waste management and segregation. Following this exercise, a buyback plastic center would be launched to collect plastic waste within the selected communities.

The exercise is in response to the lingering waste management problems within most Ghanaian communities. GAYO in partnership with the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly, Sesa Recycling, La Tenu Radio, and other partners, will deploy volunteers who will train and educate residents on how to properly dispose of and segregate waste.

The exercise which is scheduled for March 11 and 12, 2022 is under the theme “promoting citizen participation ineffective waste management”. It will be carried out in three communities of the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly. The residents of Mantiase, Adobetor, and Adiembra all within La will be sensitized on waste segregation and effective management.

This exercise is part of the Zero Waste Accra project implemented by GAYO to implement a Zero Waste management strategy aimed at delivering green jobs in the Municipality.

The two-day exercise is aimed to sensitize the community on waste management and partner with relevant institutions to deliver waste management advocacy among other things. The campaign will sensitize the whole community on waste segregation, waste management, and health benefits,

The exercise is targeted at reaching out to about 500 households within the three communities to instill environmental values and proper waste management practices within the community to prevent littering and improper disposal of waste. GAYO and LADMA have therefore urged corporate organizations and stakeholders of the environment to come on board in promoting effective waste management practices.
