Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) Staff to embark on an indefinite strike action over poor conditions of service
Staff of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) will embark on an indefinite strike action across the country starting on February 18, 2022.
In a statement by the Agency signed and dated February 17, 2022, the staff, bemoans that government has failed to respond to their resolution presented to the Communication and Digitalisation Ministry on January 5 which enumerated their poor conditions of service, hence, their decision to commence the industrial action.
The last time the Meteorological Agency embacked of strike action in Ghana was in 2016, when the staff of the Agency laid down their tools and demanded the amendment of GMET ACT 682 of 2004 which they had raised issues about as far back as 2013.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency is responsible for providing information on weather situations on a daily basis for the public and the strike action will affect a number of sectors such as the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, the agriculture sector, tourism, forestry among others.
