John Dumelo is Deputy Food and Agric Minister-designate

Ghanaian actor, farmer, and politician John Dumelo has been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama as the Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture. This nomination was part of a broader announcement on February 5, 2025, which included 13 deputy ministerial appointments awaiting parliamentary approval.

Dumelo, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has been actively involved in agriculture and has previously advocated for reforms in the sector.

Notably, he has called for the discontinuation of the Planting for Food and Jobs program, citing concerns over its effectiveness and potential for corruption. He has emphasized the importance of investing in irrigation to support year-round farming and reduce reliance on imports.

His nomination reflects a commitment to leveraging his practical experience in agriculture to influence national policy and drive improvements within Ghana’s agricultural sector.
