Lands Minister Charges New VALCO Board to Lead Aluminium Industry Revival

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Honourable Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has charged the newly inaugurated Governing Board of the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) to spearhead the revival of Ghana’s aluminium industry by fully harnessing the country’s vast bauxite resources.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, where 10 members of the Board were sworn into office, the Minister described the mandate of the new Board as both national and historic, stressing that VALCO remains central to Ghana’s long-term industrialisation agenda.
According to him, Ghana is endowed with significant bauxite deposits, and the task before the Board is to help transform this natural resource into a competitive, sustainable aluminium industry that will create jobs, boost exports, and add value to the economy.
Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah noted that government’s vision goes beyond raw material extraction, emphasising the need for a fully integrated aluminium value chain—from bauxite mining to alumina refining and aluminium smelting. He said VALCO is expected to play a leading role in this process through strategic partnerships, sound governance, and operational efficiency.
The Minister further urged the Board to prioritise transparency, accountability and innovation, while working closely with relevant state institutions and private sector players to reposition VALCO as a viable and profitable national asset.
He assured the Board of government’s commitment to supporting policies and investments that will enable the company to regain its place as a key driver of industrial growth and energy-linked manufacturing in Ghana.
The newly sworn-in Board members expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work diligently to reposition VALCO and contribute meaningfully to the transformation of Ghana’s aluminium industry.
