Lands Minister Inspects Major Reclaimed Mining Site at Manso Adubia

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Honourable Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has toured a large-scale land reclamation project at Manso Adubia in the Amansie South District, where extensive areas previously destroyed by illegal mining have been restored through a government–private sector partnership.

He was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, along with regional officials, district authorities, and community leaders.
The visit forms part of the implementation of President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, which places strong national emphasis on environmental restoration, protection of natural assets, and the creation of sustainable economic opportunities in mining-affected communities.

According to project stakeholders, approximately 320 hectares of severely degraded land have been rehabilitated. The work included backfilling deep pits, reshaping unstable terrain, improving soil integrity, and planting vegetation to support long-term ecological recovery.
The reclamation was carried out in partnership with Newmont Ghana Limited, one of the country’s largest mining firms, which collaborated with the Ministry to bring the degraded landscape back to productive use.

Speaking after the inspection, The Minister emphasized that land restoration remains a critical pillar of the government’s strategy against illegal mining.
“This reclaimed site is evidence of what is possible when regulation, partnership, and political will come together. Restoring these lands is about protecting livelihoods, safeguarding national resources, and securing the future for affected communities,” he noted.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Amoakohene also commended the initiative, describing it as proof of the administration’s determination to reverse the environmental destruction caused by unregulated mining.
