Mahama Breaks Ground for Poultry, Meat and Feed Processing Factory

President John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of a Poultry, Meat and Feed Processing Factory at Bechem in the Ahafo Region. The project is a key component of the government’s flagship poultry revitalisation initiative, the Nkoko Nketenkete Project.

The facility, expected to be completed within 12 months, will have the capacity to process 3,000 birds per day. President Mahama described the Bechem project as a state-of-the-art agro-industrial hub designed to strengthen every stage of the poultry value chain. It will feature a modern feed mill producing high-quality, affordable feed and a hygienic meat processing unit built to meet both domestic and export standards.

The complex will also host a training academy for young people, farmers and technical personnel, along with dormitories and residential facilities to support long-term skills development. Additional infrastructure such as cold storage and dry warehouses will help maintain product quality and reduce post-production losses.

According to the President, the factory is one of several anchor projects aimed at positioning Ghana as a competitive force in the poultry and livestock sector. “This is not just an industrial plant; it is a centre of excellence for poultry development, innovation, research and agribusiness incubation,” he said, adding that it is expected to attract private investment and stimulate rural industrialisation.

He further disclosed that similar facilities will be established in other regions to process the anticipated increase in poultry output under the Nkoko Nketenkete Project.

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, noted that the plant will also include a waste-treatment component that converts factory waste into feed for poultry and fisheries, as well as organic fertilizers for farmers.
