Mahama launches Vegetable Development Project under Feed Ghana Initiative

President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned the Vegetable Development Project under the Feed Ghana Initiative at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, describing the move as a significant stride towards improving national food security and enhancing irrigation infrastructure.
Speaking to farmers, traditional leaders and project stakeholders at the launch on Thursday, November 27, the President disclosed that the project involves the construction of a modern packhouse facility to aid in the grading, sorting, packaging and cold chain preservation of all vegetables produced under the initiative.
On the timeline for execution, President Mahama announced that the project is expected to be completed within 12 months. He further indicated that the government intends to replicate the initiative nationwide, with particular focus on the northern regions where dry-season water shortages continue to pose challenges for farmers.
“The entire project has been carefully designed to be completed within 12 months. This Vegetable Development Project will be replicated in many other parts of the country, especially in the north, where water availability is a major challenge at many times of the year,” he said.
In linking the project to employment creation, President Mahama pointed out that strengthening the vegetable production sector could significantly boost job opportunities. He stressed that government is laying the groundwork for a 24-hour agricultural economy to absorb the growing workforce and promote sustainable development across the country.
