Ministry and Partners Hold Workshop on Communicating the GCTP Marine Protected Area

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Fisheries Commission, in collaboration with Hɛn Mpoano, today, February 24, 2026, organised a Communication Socialization Workshop on the implementation of the Greater Cape Three Points Marine Protected Area (GCTP MPA) at the Ministry’s Conference Room.
The workshop, themed “Building Shared Understanding and Unified Messaging on the GCTP MPA,” brought together Directors, Deputy Directors and Unit Heads of the Ministry, Directors and key staff of the Fisheries Commission, and officers from the Premix Fuel Secretariat.
The engagement aimed to ensure that both institutions speak with one voice on the MPA initiative by deepening participants’ understanding of the MPA framework, policy rationale, conservation objectives, and implications for fisheries livelihoods.
Participants were also oriented on the use of the MPA Song Sheet as a standardized communication tool for engaging coastal communities and the general public, while clarifying institutional roles and responsibilities with emphasis on collaboration, community participation, and voluntary compliance.
The session featured active discussions, practical communication approaches for addressing community concerns, and responses to frequently asked questions on the MPA.
Presentations were delivered by Hɛn Mpoano and the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
This engagement is expected to strengthen coordinated outreach, promote consistent messaging, and build public trust as implementation of the GCTP MPA progresses.
