Minority caucus abstains from approval of Sam George

Ghana’s Parliament has recently experienced significant tension surrounding the approval of ministerial nominees. The Minority Caucus abstained from voting on the approval of Sam George as the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation. Initially, they demanded a secret ballot for his approval but later withdrew this request.
In response to his nomination, Sam George remarked that it had caused considerable distress within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This incident is part of a broader pattern of discord in Parliament. Recently, the Appointments Committee faced disruptions when members of the Minority and Majority clashed over the vetting schedule of nominees, leading to chaotic scenes and property damage.
These events underscore the deepening divisions within Ghana’s legislative body, highlighting the challenges in achieving consensus on key governmental appointments.
