Minority rejects Ablakwa’s approval, as Parliament approves 12 more ministers-designate

Ghana’s Parliament has approved 12 ministerial nominees proposed by President John Mahama, following their vetting by the Appointments Committee. The approved ministers include Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for Foreign Affairs and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh for Health.

Despite the Appointments Committee’s consensus on recommending all 12 nominees, the Minority in Parliament has expressed opposition to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s approval. Their specific reasons for this dissent are however yet to be detailed

This development follows earlier tensions within the Appointments Committee, including disputes over its reconstitution and a walkout by Minority members during the vetting process. Nevertheless, the committee proceeded and unanimously agreed on the qualifications of all nominees.

The final confirmation of these nominees now awaits a formal vote in Parliament’s plenary session, where their approval is anticipated to be a formality, given the committee’s endorsement.
