National Service Authority adopts cashless payment system

The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced a complete transition to a cashless payment system as part of the government’s efforts to modernize revenue collection.
Under this new directive, all payments, including administrative service charges of 20% and 10%, must now be processed exclusively through the GHANA.GOV platform.
This move aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and accessibility for stakeholders. Payments can now be made at any time via the official website www.ghana.gov.gh or by dialing *222# on any mobile network.
The adoption of cashless payment systems is a growing trend worldwide. According to the World Bank, from 2017 to 2020, the annual number of cashless transactions per person globally rose from 91 to 135, with significant increases observed in both low and middle-income economies.
In Germany, the Deutsche Bundesbank secures and monitors cashless payments, providing settlement and clearing services, and plays an active role in the further development of the single European payment system.
The shift towards cashless payments offers several advantages, including increased efficiency, reduced costs associated with handling physical cash, and enhanced transparency in financial transactions. However, it also requires robust digital infrastructure and measures to ensure cybersecurity and inclusivity for all users.
