No spiritual powers can stop NAIMOS task force — Spokesperson

Spokesperson for the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), Paa Kwesi Schandorf, has stated that no spiritual powers can prevent the NAIMOS task force from carrying out its duties.

His remarks come after the Head of the Western Region Forestry Commission, Nana Poku Bosompim, claimed that some illegal miners have spiritually fortified themselves to overpower the anti-illegal mining task force.

In an interview with GH One TV on Monday, November 24, Paa Kwesi stated that although there are reports that illegal miners spiritually fortify themselves, NAIMOS remains unwavering in its fight against illegal mining.

He further emphasised that the momentum of the anti-illegal mining campaign remains strong despite these claims.

“Of course, they would want to fortify themselves. They would want to position themselves in a manner that would make them invincible.

“There is no level of spirituality that can dissolve the momentum of the NAIMOS task force. We have not had any report of that nature, and we do not think we will ever get there,” he added.

He further noted that NAIMOS has not recorded any instance where its operations have been rendered ineffective due to such spiritual fortification claims, stressing that the organisation remains unfazed by these manoeuvres.

“Is NAIMOS up to the task? Absolutely. We have not had any report whatsoever, within the framework of NAIMOS, where the task force has been rendered ineffective because illegal miners were operating under a certain spiritual climate.

“So yes, that possibility exists. As I indicated, they [illegal miners] are very aggressive and confrontational now. Do we have what it takes to contain them? We do. So as for their spiritual antics, it is not a problem at all,” he remarked.
