Nungua Stool warns Trasacco, Okpelor Sowah Din family to stay off Nmai Djor lands

The Nungua Traditional Stool has issued a strong warning to the Okpelor Sowah Din Family of Teshie and Trasacco, urging them to halt all occupation and development activities on lands at Nmai Djor, which it has described as illegal.
The Stool said actions by Trasacco and the Okpelor Sowah Din Family on the disputed land, despite their awareness of ongoing court proceedings, constitute a calculated effort to overreach the courts and undermine the administration of justice.
In support of its position, the Stool referenced several Supreme Court rulings, including Empire Builders Ltd v. Topkins Enterprises Ltd & Others (2020) and Nii Daniel Marleynai v. Katamanso Stool & The Lands Commission (2023), which it said conclusively affirm the Nungua Stool’s ownership of the Nmai Djor lands.
Speaking at a press conference held at the hall of the Nungua Traditional Authority, Nii Borteyfio Borteykwei Afadi Nsuro, the Nkpor Mantse of Nungua, who addressed the gathering on behalf of the Stool, stated that any entry onto, sale of, development on, or interference with the land while the case remains before the courts amounts to contempt of court.
“Any such actions are a clear affront to judicial authority,” he stated.
The press briefing, attended by traditional priests and priestesses as well as the former Greater Accra Regional Minister and Chief of Kpone Katamanso, Tatse Nii Laryea Akuetteh, followed a violent shooting incident on January 10, 2026, which the Stool said posed a serious threat to lives and public peace in the area.
The Nungua Traditional Stool strongly condemned what it described as the unlawful invasion and occupation of its ancestral lands at Nmai Djor, holding Trasacco and the Okpelor Sowah Din Family responsible for the situation.
Nii Afadi Nsuro further alleged that the groups had deployed armed land guards and were allegedly seeking support from national security personnel to facilitate development activities and intimidate residents.
“The Nungua Stool condemns this incident in the strongest terms and expresses deep concern over credible reports suggesting the involvement and protection of certain political actors who appear to be emboldening these unlawful acts in defiance of existing court processes,” he said.
The Stool cautioned members of the public, as well as prospective land buyers and developers, to be vigilant and disregard any documentation claiming to originate from the Okpelor Sowah Din Family, stressing that the only legitimate title to the land is vested in the Nungua Stool.
It also appealed to state security agencies to step in to restore law and order and ensure peace is maintained until the courts reach a final determination on the matter, while reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence, lawful development, and respect for the rule of law.
