Parliamentary committee travels to Rwanda to strengthen sanitation governance

Ghana’s Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources has begun a week-long benchmarking mission to the Republic of Rwanda as part of efforts to enhance the country’s sanitation and water governance frameworks.

The team, led by the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah, will be in Rwanda from 30 November to 6 December 2025. The purpose of the study tour is to expose committee members to proven global approaches in sanitation management, environmental sustainability, and water resource administration.

Throughout the visit, the Committee will engage with major Rwandan government bodies and institutions responsible for sanitation, waste management, and water governance. Members will also observe Rwanda’s well-regarded initiatives in urban cleanliness, community-driven sanitation practices, waste recycling, and environmental conservation.

Rwanda is widely acknowledged as one of the cleanest and most environmentally forward-looking countries on the continent, positioning it as a strong reference point for Ghana’s ongoing sanitation reforms.

The trip aligns with Parliament’s broader plan to strengthen policy oversight and contribute to national efforts to upgrade sanitation infrastructure and promote environmental health across the country.
