Minister worried over Sandwining and Encroachment on Water bodies

The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah expressed worry over the encroachment and sandwining practices at the banks of the river bodies in the country. The minister recently suspended sandwining activities along the Densu River.
Madam Cecilia visited water treatment plants at Nsawam and Weija to ascertain the challenges the plants face during dry seasons.
Speaking to the media, the Minister said that, the dry season coupled with some human activities like encroachment and sandwining at Weija and Nsawam have caused challenges for water production in the country. She stated that the ministry will probe into all illegal activities that are carried out at the banks of river bodies which
The Communications Director for the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Stanley Martey also expressed disappointment over the level of poor compliance to laws in Ghana. He said that the human activities at the banks of the river are costing the GWCL huge sums of money. He has therefore appealed to Ghanaians involved to desist from such illegal acts.
