We must protect water catchment areas in the Upper East – Dr. Bob Alfa

The Water Resources Commission’s (WRC) Director of Planning, Dr. Bob Alfa, has urged district assemblies in the Upper East Region to do more to protect water catchment areas. To stem the degradation of these areas due to human activities, they needed to start doing modest things that were inexpensive but effective.

Dr Alfa who is the Country Coordinator of Dam Projects of Blue Deal Authority said “you do not have to wait for big investments”.

On the sideline of a meeting to discuss the Blue Deal project to combat pollution in the White Volta basin’s Kpasenkpe sub-basin, he made the call through the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga. It brought together civil society groups, the World Resources Institute, and the Blue Deal’s partners.

Dr Alfa said; “though there is an overall plan for the entire white Volta basin, this is specific to the Kpasenkpe sub-basin and that will give us the basis and blueprint to see if it can be replicated in other catchment areas”.

On the sideline of a meeting to discuss the Blue Deal project to combat pollution in the White Volta basin’s Kpasenkpe sub-basin, he made the call through the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga.

He indicated that phase one of the project was a success and expressed optimism that phase two will begin next year and progress at a faster speed.

He explained that providing clean and safe water meant not only addressing the lack of water but also the poor sanitation and pollution in the catchment area.
