2022 Green Ghana Day to be marked tomorrow.

The 2022 edition of the Green Ghana Day will be marked tomorrow June 10, 2022, across all districts in the country as part of the government’s quest to combat the menaces of climate change.

The project is expected to plant some 20 million seedlings under the theme, ‘mobilizing for a greener future’.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources together with the Forestry Commission have assured the public that the free seedlings are available and ready for pick up at all district offices of the Forestry Commission and other key locations.

At the launch of this year’s celebration on March 1, 2022, President Nana Akufo Addo entreated each Ghanaian resident to plant at least one tree to ensure the country meets the 20 million target.

The president also noted that although the target is ambitious, with the support of every Ghanaian the country can meet this target to safeguard the forest and ecosystem.

Speaking on tomorrow’s exercise, the sector Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor charged Ghanaians to consider the project a national agenda and not a partisan one. He, therefore, called for everyone’s support to fight climate change through the program.

“When it comes to issues of the environment it is important we do not politicize it because at the end of the day it will impact us all”, he said.

“If we are successful in planting these 20 million trees…. it will set a benchmark for the world and show our willingness to protect our environment”, he added.

The Green Ghana initiative which began in 2021 received enormous support from individuals and corporate institutions to ensure the country exceed the 2 million trees target by planting about 7 million trees.
