Ghana and Egypt forge new strategic alliance for sustainable mining

At the 2025 Africa Down Under Summit in Perth, Ghana and Egypt announced a new strategic alliance for sustainable mining. Ghana’s Lands Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah and Egypt’s Minister for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Karim Badawi, agreed to collaborate on sharing expertise, best practices, and promoting value addition in the mining sector.
The partnership, which bridges North and West Africa, aims to strengthen pan-African cooperation and ensure mineral wealth drives sustainable and inclusive development.
Both ministers highlighted their countries’ mining potential — Egypt showcasing its resources in tantalite, phosphate, and gold, and Ghana emphasizing value addition and community empowerment.
The alliance also drew on historical ties between the two nations, referencing Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah’s Egyptian heritage. Minister Buah invited his Egyptian counterpart to visit Ghana, a gesture warmly accepted.
The new Ghana-Egypt collaboration positions Africa as a united front in global mining, offering investors a stable and sustainable mining ecosystem.
