NAIMOS Intensifies Anti-Galamsey Operations in Western and Western North Regions

A task force from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has carried out a series of coordinated raids on illegal mining sites at Hiawa in the Amenfi Central District, as part of intensified efforts to combat galamsey activities.

During the operation, the task force dismantled and destroyed assorted illegal mining equipment, including makeshift structures, water pumping machines, and wooden gold-washing platforms used by the operators.

The renewed crackdown targets areas that have been re-occupied by illegal miners, whose activities continue to cause extensive damage to water bodies, forest reserves, and farmlands. NAIMOS noted that these operations are being conducted in blatant disregard of environmental laws and regulatory oversight, underscoring the need for sustained enforcement actions to protect the environment and livelihoods in the affected communities.
