Energy Ministry, GRIDCo assure minimal power disruption ahead of WAPCo maintenance

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, together with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), has reassured the public that electricity supply disruptions will be minimal ahead of planned maintenance activities by the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo).
In a statement released on Saturday, January 17, 2026, GRIDCo disclosed that it had received official notification from WAPCo regarding compulsory maintenance works on its gas facilities in Ghana. The exercise is scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 18, 2026, between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
According to GRIDCo, the maintenance will lead to a temporary halt in gas supply to thermal power plants situated in Tema for the duration of the works.
The company explained that the maintenance is critical to safeguarding the safety, reliability, and overall integrity of the gas supply system. It further assured the public that sufficient alternative fuel measures have been arranged to sustain power generation and ensure stable electricity supply throughout the maintenance period.
The statement also indicated that key stakeholders across the energy value chain will remain fully engaged and closely supervise the process to guarantee a smooth and successful operation.
GRIDCo apologised for any inconvenience the maintenance may cause and called on the public to show understanding and cooperation.
The statement was signed by GRIDCo’s Corporate Communications Section.
