EPA Launches Pilot Water Cleaning Exercise on Birim River

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), through its launched a Pilot Water Cleaning Exercise on the Birim River at Adukrom in the Asiakwa Area on Tuesday, 24th February 2026.
The event, which brought together key stakeholders, partner institutions, community representatives, and members of the media, forms part of ongoing national efforts to restore and protect Ghana’s water bodies from pollution and degradation.
In her address the Ag. Chief Executive Officer of the EPA, Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, highlighted the growing concerns over water pollution, particularly the impact of illegal mining and other anthropogenic activities on the Birim River. She underscored the importance of science-driven, innovative, and collaborative approaches to water restoration. According to her, the pilot intervention represents a practical step towards reclaiming polluted water bodies and strengthening environmental governance.
A major highlight of the event was the pilot water cleaning demonstration by the technical team. This showcased the operational process and effectiveness of the cleaning technology ( Ionic Nano Copper) being deployed to improve water quality.
The demonstration marks a significant milestone in the EPA’s efforts to combat water pollution and promote responsible environmental stewardship. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure the protection of Ghana’s water resources for present and future generations.
