Ghana’s Lithium Deal: Lands Minister Unveils Sliding Scale Mechanism, Assures Maximum Benefits

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), has reaffirmed government’s commitment to securing the highest possible value from the country’s emerging lithium resources, announcing a new sliding scale mechanism designed to boost national revenue.

The Minister made the announcement during a high-level engagement with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources and traditional leaders from the Mankessim Traditional Area, held to discuss progress on the Ewoyaa Lithium Project and ongoing reforms in the mining sector.

Buah explained that the sliding scale model will allow Ghana’s earnings to increase automatically when global lithium prices rise, ensuring that the state and host communities benefit more during market booms. The approach, he said, replaces rigid royalty terms that often disadvantage resource-rich countries.

“This mechanism positions Ghana to capture greater value from its green minerals and ensures that citizens benefit fairly from our natural endowments,” he assured.
