82-Year-Old Cocoa Farmer Crowned 2025 National Best Farmer

An 82-year-old farmer from the Kwahu Afram Plains South District in the Eastern Region, Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei, has been named the Overall 2025 National Best Farmer, earning national praise for his remarkable lifelong contribution to Ghana’s agricultural development.
With an impressive 44-year career, Opanyin Adusei manages a vast agricultural enterprise that includes 1,000 acres of cocoa, 293 acres of mango, and 30 acres of cashew, placing him among the country’s most experienced and productive commercial farmers.
For his outstanding achievement, he was presented with a GH₵1.2 million cash prize sponsored by the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), a brand-new tractor donated by Sino Trucks, along with power trailers, a motorized sprayer, and a commemorative plaque.
The ceremony also celebrated other distinguished farmers from across the country:
Osmanu Kadri – 1st Runner-Up, National Best Farmer (Greater Accra Region)
Charles Gyato – 2nd Runner-Up, National Best Farmer (Volta Region)
Grace Owusuaa – National Best Female Farmer (Ashanti Region)
Ruben Asare – National Best Youth Farmer (Bono East Region)
This year’s National Farmers’ Day once again highlighted the vital role of farmers in nation-building and reinforced government’s commitment to strengthening the agriculture sector.
